Fordham Law LL.M. student Luis Divar has been named one of the best lawyers in Spain by Best Lawyers, one of the oldest peer-review publications in the legal profession. Divar has been recognized in the litigation area for three consecutive years.
Divar is a founder of Madrid-based JLG Abogados and has represented numerous clients in high-dollar international litigation and arbitration proceedings. Most notably, he represented the European Communities Commission before the National Appellate Court of Spain in a “milk fraud” case valued at 200 million euros.
Legal professionals recognized as best lawyers are determined through a peer-reviewed process designed to capture the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area. The process begins with a period of open nominations followed by the generating of ballots. The ballots are then sent to the lawyers listed in the previous edition for peer-reviewed voting.
Of the more than 140,000 active lawyers in Spain, only 1,860 are honored with a best lawyer designation. In other words, Divar and other listed lawyers represent less than 2% of Spanish lawyers.
Best Lawyers began publishing rankings, first in the United States, in 1983. Its first edition in Spain was released in 2008.
